Bile Peritonitis following Surgery for Biliary Stones

چکیده
Surgery for gallstone disease is becoming common because of increased prevalence and due to universal applicability of diagnostic investigations like ultrasound and its extensive use which was not available in past. Surgical methods like open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy are safe and complications arising out of such procedures have become uncommon due to increased awareness and expertise acquired by surgeons. Bile peritonitis following surgery is unusual but may have disastrous consequences with mortality between 30%-50% which increases in case surgical intervention is delayed. The rate of clinicallyrelevant bile leaks after conventional open cholecystectomy
